GOD’S WORD FOR AUGUST 21

AUGUST 21

OUR PERSONAL PROMISES

HELEN STEINER RICE:

Do you want what you want when you want it…….Do you pray and expect a reply, and when it’s not instantly answered, do you feel that God passed you by?

Well, prayers that are prayed in this manner, are really not prayers at all, for you can’t go to God in a hurry, and expect Him to answer your call….

For prayers are not meant for obtaining what we selfishly wish to acquire, for God in His wisdom refuses the things that we wrongly desire….

WAKE UP! You are missing completely the reason and purpose of prayer, which is really to keep us contented that God holds us safe in His care….

And God only answers our pleadings when He knows that our wants fill a need, and whenever “our will” becomes “His will”  then there is no prayer that God does not heed!

This month we will continue the book, “Whatever Happens – How to Stand Firm in Your Faith When the World is Falling Apart.”  By a contemporary author of many best-selling Christian books, Robert J. Morgan.  He took care of his wife when she had MS, until she went home to her Savior.  “He knows of which he speaks.”  I pray that this book blesses you.

Philippians 4:19

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

WHATEVER HAPPENS …..CONSIDER YOURSELF WORTH MILLIONS

Some of the richest people on earth are the poorest – and, again, I’m not just speaking metaphorically.  In 1975, on the day he turned 21, John Harvey, 7th Marquess of Bristol, inherited a fortune that would equal $65 million today.  At first, he increased his worth by wise investments and real estate deals.  But he also bought yachts, sports cars, and escorts.  He was handsome, charming, and known for his flamboyant lifestyle and sexual escapades.  His growing drug habit became uncontrollable and sucked up millions of his dollars.  He ended up depressed and penniless, dying from multi organ failure at age 44.

Would you call him rich?  Would God?

On the other hand, some of the poorest people on earth are the richest.  They are children of the King, and the Bible is something of a register of our riches.  Let’s go into the vault of Scripture, open the ledgers, and begin an impossible task – trying to calculate our wealth.  In this chapter, are 24 Bible verses you should know.

Let’s start with our key verse from Philippians (4:19 above).

As we saw in the last chapter, Paul commended the Philippians for their support of global missions and the ongoing work of the church.  He promised them they wouldn’t lose by giving.  Instead, he said, “My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.”

Our Lord possesses infinite wealth.  His property extends to the edges of the universe and beyond.

Psalm 50:10-12 says:

“Every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.  I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine……The world is mine, and all that is in it.”

The Lord’s resources are infinite; His budget is limitless; His wealth is overflowing.  He can certainly meet every need in your life according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.

In all  my Biblical studies , I have never seen such a list as this.  I’m giving it to you in brief form but suggesting you find  time to go through these verses during your daily devotions, dwelling on them, relishing them, memorizing those that are most meaningful to you, and then sharing them with others.  This list also provides excellent fodder for a group Bible study.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed putting it together.
