GOD’S WORD FOR SEPTEMBER 2
SEPTEMBER 2
OUR PERSONAL PROMISES:
Philippians 4:6
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;”
Psalm 37:7
“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.”
Psalm 132:14
“This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.”
The believer who doesn’t live in the confidence of God’s sovereignty will lack God’s peace and be left to the chaos of a troubled heart. But our confident trust in the Lord will allow us to thank Him in the midst of trials because we have God’s peace on duty to protect our hearts.
Replace fear with a thankful prayer. Look to God with a grateful attitude and you will enjoy peace and rest. As believers, we are to leave the sin of worry behind with our prayers and gradually become different people through new ways of thinking and acting in faith.
Godly peace cannot be produced on a human level at all. Human peace is fragile and subject to being destroyed by feelings and emotions. The peace that God gives is not subject to that. It is spiritual. It is an attitude of heart and mind when we believe and thus know deep down that all is well between ourselves and God.
Besides that, we have the assurance that He is lovingly in control of everything.
We will be with Him in the end for eternity, and before that, He is in control of all things that concern us with His eternal love for us. (Spurgeon)

This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”) devotional, “Beside Still Waters” It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day. We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Faith teaches us to look for the end of everything, and to know that this trial works together for good if we love God, if we are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). Faith teaches us to depend on God’s power during trials. Thus, we no longer stumble but rise above our afflictions.
Believer, if you are anxious, careworn, and worried, it cannot do you any good. It reflects no honor on your great Father. Pray for faith to transfer your back-breaking load to the great Burden Bearer. If your burden is lightened, your strength is multiplied. If you are content with the divine will, it is better than increased riches, because wealth does not bring peace, and prosperity gives no joy in the Lord.

Whatever burden faith finds, it casts it on God in prayer. We begin with God in the morning, seeking His help to do our work well. At His hands, we seek guidance and prosperity from hour to hour. We pray to prevent doing wrong to others or suffering wrong from them. We ask Him to keep our temper and to preserve our spirit while we are in the world.
Believers, go to God with the matters of each day. Look for the morning dew to fall and for God to be your constant shield. At night before you rest, empty the day’s gathered troubles and fall into a happy sleep. Thus, we sweetly live, trusting our Lord with everything and finding Him always near.
In all this, our Savior’s example leads us, and His love within our hearts draws us.
