GOD’S WORD FOR SEPTEMBER 7

SEPTEMBER 7

OUR PERSONAL PROMISES

2 Timothy 1:7

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

 2 Timothy 2:12

“If we endure, we shall also reign with Him.

If we deny Him,  He also will deny us.”

1 John 4:18

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

(There is a “fear not” message 365 times in the Word—-one for each day of the year.)

Jeremiah 20:11

“But the Lord is with me as a mighty, awesome One.

Therefore my persecutors will stumble, and will not prevail.

They will be greatly ashamed, for they will not prosper.

Their everlasting confusion will never be forgotten.”

Psalm 18:1

“I will love you, Oh Lord my Strength.”

***** ****

This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”)  devotional, “Beside Still Waters.”  It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day.  We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed  by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.

I have this to say.  If I should never preach again, if this might be the last discourse I should ever deliver in this world, I would wish to make this my final testimony:

There is a joy in Christianity that I never dreamed of. He is a good Master whom I have served.  It is a blessed faith that He has given me, and it yields such blessed hope that:

“I would not change my blessed estate for all the world calls good or great.”

If I had to die as a martyr, and there was no hereafter, I would still prefer to be a Christian to being a king or an emperor.  I am persuaded there are more delights in Christ, yes, more joy in one glimpse of His face, than is to be found in all the praises of this evil world and in all the delights that it can yield in its sunniest and brightest days.  I am persuaded that what He has been until now, He will be to the end.  Where He has begun a good work, He will carry it on. (Philippians 1:6).

Christ’s cross is a hope that we can die by.  It can take us down to the grave without a fear; it can make us rejoice when we are in the swelling waters of Jordan.  It can fill us with delight when we are bowed down with physical pain or nervous distress.  There is that in Christ which can make us triumph over the gloomiest terrors of death, that makes us rejoice in the darkest of storms.

Trust, TRUST in the Lord, because both our testimony and that of all His people is that He is worthy to be trusted.

“Wait on the Lord;  be of good courage, and He will strengthen your heart;  wait, I say, on the Lord!”

(Ps 27:14)
