GOD’S WORD FOR SEPTEMBER 16

SEPTEMBER 16

OUR PERSONAL PROMISES

The Word has a lot to say about not being anxious about anything. Here are a few:

Philippians 4:6

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;”

Luke 12:29

“And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind.”

Job 20:2

“Therefore my anxious thoughts make me answer, Because of the turmoil within me.”

Luke 12:26

“If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?”

Psalm 139:23

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties;”

Psalm 94:19

“In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul.”

This month we will read choices from  Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”)  devotional, “Beside Still Waters.”   It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day.  We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed  by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.

“He shall sustain you.”  Psalm 55:22

In order to apply this remedy, rather than just describe it by the help of God’s Holy Spirit I will mention some fears and cares that can only be relieved by leaving them with God.  “What shall I eat, what shall I drink, what shall I wear?  With no opportunity to earn a living, without friend or patron to assist me, what shall I do?”

You are a Christian, you must use all diligence, for that is your duty.  If God will help you, do not mingle fretfulness with diligence, or impatience with suffering, or distrust with trials.

Remember what Jesus sweetly said, “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?  Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?  So why do you worry about clothing?  Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”  (Matthew 6:26-30)

“Therefore, do not worry saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek.  For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.  But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:31-33).

Use your most earnest effort and humble yourself under the mighty hand of God.  If you cannot do one thing, do another.  If you cannot earn your bread by the sweat of your brain, do it by the sweat of your brow.  Then, if every door is still shut, “Trust in the Lord, and do good……delight yourself also in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:3-4)

(Psalm 37:25 ~ ~ “I have been young, and now am old; Yet I have not seen the righteous {saved} forsaken, Nor his descendants begging bread.”)
