OUR PERSONAL PROMISES

1 Chronicles 29:11

“Yours, O Lord, is the greatness,

The power and the glory,

The victory and the majesty;

For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours;

Yours is the kingdom, O Lord,

And You are exalted as head over all.”

2 Chronicles 20:6

“And said, “O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you.”

Isaiah 40:28-31

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”)  devotional, “Beside Still Waters.”   It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day.  We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed  by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.

PASTOR SPURGEON:

Nothing is impossible with the Lord.  Learn something of His power.  All the power in the universe came from God.  It still comes from Him, and at His command this world would immediately cease. 

Whatever force there is in inanimate nature, it is God at work.  He sets the wheel of nature in motion, and keeps it going.  Whatever mental faculty there is in cherub, seraph, angel, or humanity, it flows from His creative energy.

If Jehovah wills, the enormous planets that revolve around the sun would rush in wild confusion to inevitable destruction.  The law of gravity, which holds all things in place, would be instantly broken if He withdrew the force that makes the law a power.  If Jehovah withdrew there would be no coherence among the atoms; they would dissolve into non-existence and leave the universe void.

This is power so great that we cry with Nehemiah, “You alone are the Lord;  You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and everything on it, the seas and all that is in them, and You preserve them all.  The host of heaven worships You.  (Nehemiah 9:6)

Our great God can do all things without help.  He needs no assistance!  Indeed, there could be no such aid, since all power is from Him alone.  Creatures do not contribute to His strength.  Creatures only testify of Him, revealing the power that they borrowed from Him.  To achieve any purpose He asks none to be His ally, for He does as He wills.

(But He humbled Himself, and temporarily put aside all that power and glory,  not only to become a lowly human being……….one of His creatures…..but to be the lowest even of them………..to be hated like no other by those He loved so dearly……………to save us from our own sins……to save us from the consequences of our  rejection of Him over and over in our lives.   He paid our price for sinning against Him, when with just one word, He could annihilate us all……….ponder that!)
