This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”)  devotional, “Beside Still Waters.”   It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day.  We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed  by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.

PASTOR SPURGEON:

There is a bottomless well of delight for every Christian who fellowships with God.  When we enter God’s love, it enters us.  When we habitually walk with God our joy is like the Jordan at harvest; our banks overflow.

Do you know what it means to walk with God as Enoch did for 300 years?   Do you know what it means to sit at Jesus’ feet  as Martha’s sister Mary did?  Do you know what it means to lean your head on Jesus’ bosom as John did at the last supper?

Fellowship with the Lord is not mere talk.  We have known this fellowship in affliction.  We have known this fellowship in the solitude of many nights of broken rest.  We have known this fellowship beneath discouragement, under sorrow, and in all sorts of ills.   We reckon that one drop of Christ’s fellowship is enough to sweeten an ocean of trials.  Just to know that He is near, to  enjoy His presence and to see His gleaming eye, would transform even hell into heaven.

The animals in the meadow do not know the far-reaching thoughts of Him who counts the number of the stars and calls them all by name (Psalm 147:4).  The unsaved cannot even guess at the things God has prepared for those who love Him.  God reveals this to believers by His Holy Spirit.

Fellowship with the Father and with His son Jesus Christ is the joy of the Lord.  The habit of fellowship is the life of happiness.
