GOD’S WORD FOR OCTOBER 6
OCTOBER 6
OUR PERSONAL PROMISES
Psalm 18:2
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
Isaiah 57:15
“For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”
Isaiah 66:2
“For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist,” Says the Lord. “But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word.”
Psalm 91:1
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
Psalm 33:6
“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
And by the breath of His mouth all their host.”
Psalm 33: 20-22
“Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him,
Because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in You.”
This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”) devotional, “Beside Still Waters.” It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day. We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.
PASTOR SPURGEON:
God dwells so high that to observe heavenly things He must humble Himself. He must come down to view the skies and bow to see what angels do. What must His condescension be!!!! He observes the humblest of His servants on earth and makes them sing for joy, like Mary when she said, “He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant.” (Luke 1:48).

Wonderful are Isaiah’s words, “for thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” (Isaiah 57:15).
Heathen philosophers could not believe that the great God observed the small events of human history. They pictured Him dwelling in serene indifference to all the needs and woes of His creatures.
“their rock is not like our Rock.” (Deut. 32:31). We have a God who is high above all gods, yet, He is our Father, knowing what we need before we ask Him. He is the Shepherd who supplies our needs. He is the guardian who counts the hairs of our heads. He is the tender and considerate Friend who sympathizes with us in all our grief. Truly, our condescending God should be praised wherever He is known!
