OCTOBER 13
OUR PERSONAL PROMISES
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5
“For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God;”
Hebrews 13:8
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Psalm 18:30
“As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.”
Isaiah 55:9
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”
Lamentations 3:22-25
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul,
‘Therefore I hope in Him!’ The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.”
Proverbs 21:1
“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes”
********* ***********
This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”) devotional, “Beside Still Waters.” It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day. We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.
PASTOR SPURGEON:
God knows what He intends. You and I begin with a plan, and we deviate form it when we see something better. With God, however, there is no defect of judgment that would require a change of plan, no defect that would drive Him from His first plan. With Him there is no shadow of turning (James 1:17). Depend on it. It would be an insult to the Supreme Intellect if we supposed that He worked randomly.

This is a truth: God has one boundless purpose that embraces all the things that He permits and ordains. Without denying free choice, we believe that God foresees the curious twisting of human will, and that He overrules all for His own purpose. God knows and numbers all of humanity’s inclinations and devices; in the mighty sweep of His plan, He takes them all into account. He never swerves; what He has resolved to do, He will do. The settled purpose of His heart will stand forever.
The will of God must be done. Without effort, He molds all events into His chosen form. In the spheres of mind and matter, His dominion is absolute. (see Proverbs 21:1 above). God can bend the thoughts of people as easily as we can turn on a water faucet.
Tested believer, the Lord will be as faithful to you as He has been to me. The Lord will not fail you. Do not be discouraged, “the eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” (Deuteronomy 33;27). You will conquer. You will be delivered, and God will be glorified, if you are a believer.
