John 10:27-29

Romans 8:38, 39

“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the Love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Phil 1:6

This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”)  devotional, “Beside Still Waters.”   It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day.  We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed  by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.

PASTOR SPURGEON:

It may be well to make the best of both worlds but of this poor world nothing can be made unless it is viewed in the light of another.  This is a poor withering life at its best, for we will fade as a leaf.  Unless we purposely live with a view to the next world, we cannot make much out of our present existence.  The rotten rags of this poor world of time and sense can never be made into an array in which any Christian would care to dress.

At the same time, do not be frightened at the ugly form this life sometimes takes, for it is, after all, “a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” (James 4:4).

Do not be overjoyed like the person who hoped to embrace a goddess and was deceived by a cloud.  Sorrows over vapors are scarcely worth the tears, nor do their joys deserve a smile.  Vanity and vapor are things that wise people set small store by.  Children may be pleased with soap bubbles blown from a pipe, but adults who have put away childish things should not be greatly moved by the things of this life.  They are only bubbles of less brilliance and less substance than those that delight a child.

The world lives for the present.  The Christian lives for the future.  You must have the cross or you will not receive “the crown of glory” (1 Peter 5:4).

See that worm that you want to sweep away?  That is the beginning.  See that insect with the gorgeous wings playing in the sunbeams and sipping at the flower bells?  It is full of happiness and life.  That is the end.  That worm, that caterpillar, is you.  You are to be content with that until you are made the butterfly.

You cannot tell what you will be like after death.   But if you are a believer, saved by the Sacrifice of Christ and not of yourself, then we know this: “ ….we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” (1John 3:2).

See that rough diamond on the jeweler’s wheel?  Carefully it is turned and cut on all sides, and it loses much that seems costly.  Do you see it now?  A glittering ray flows from the skillfully cut diamond.  Christian, compare yourself to such a diamond.  You are one of God’s jewels, and this is the time of cutting.  You must endure it, so be of good courage, for Christ has overcome the world.  (John 16:33).

“Through faith and patience inherit the promises.” (Hebrews 6:12).

“’They shall be Mine’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘on the day that I make them My jewels.’”  (Malachi 3:17.

You, believer, are the Lord’s jewel!!!!!
