GOD’S WORD FOR OCTOBER 27
OCTOBER 27
OUR PERSONAL PROMISES
Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Hebrews 2:14-15 (Amplified version for clarity)
“Therefore, since [these His] children share in flesh and blood [the physical nature of mankind], He {Jesus} Himself in a similar manner also shared in the same [physical nature, but without sin], so that through [experiencing] death He might make powerless (ineffective, impotent) him who had the power of death—that is, the devil— and [that He] might free all those who through [the haunting] fear of death were held in slavery throughout their lives.”
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”
Psalm 39:4
“Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am.”
Hebrews 9:27
“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,”
Romans 8:38-39
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”) devotional, “Beside Still Waters.” It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day. We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.
PASTOR SPURGEON:
What happens to our bodies after we die? They will eventually turn to dust……just dust. That dust will pass through many transitions. The roots of trees may drink up this form, or the dust may turn to grass or flowers to be eaten by animals. The wind may blow it thousands of miles, or it may be separated atom from atom and bone may be scattered from bone.
But be assured that no matter what becomes of the dust of our bodies, as surely as the Savior rose, we will rise again in a beauty and a glory that we know little about.
The body of that dear child of God you said good-bye to will rise again. Those eyes that closed, those very same eyes, will see the King in His beauty! The ears that could not hear the last tender word you spoke – those ears – will hear the eternal melodies. The heart that grew cold will beat again with new life; it will leap with joy at the homecoming festivities.
Do not fear death. What is it? The grave is just a bath where your body, like Queen Esther buries itself in spices to make it sweet and fresh for the embrace of the glorious King in immortality.
Death is just the wardrobe where we lay aside the garment for a while and come out clean and pure.
