GOD’S WORD FOR OCTOBER 30
OCTOBER 30
OUR PERSONAL PROMISES
Jonah 4:6-8
“And the Lord God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very grateful for the plant. But as morning dawned the next day God prepared a worm, and it so damaged the plant that it withered. And it happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
Psalm 81:10
“I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.”
1 Peter 5:7
“ casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
Micah 3:11
“…Yet they lean on the Lord, and say, ‘Is not the Lord among us? No harm can come upon us.’”
Matthew 10:30
“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”
Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”) devotional, “Beside Still Waters.” It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day. We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.
PASTOR SPURGEON:
Just when we need a mercy, and when the mercy is much more a mercy because it is so timely, that is when it comes. If it had come later, it might have been too late, or at any rate it would not have been so seasonable and thus not so sweet.
Who knows what is the right time? God, who sees all at a single glance, knows. He knows when to give and He knows when to take. In the lives of the saved, there is a set time for each event. There is no need to ask, “Why this gleam of sunlight and that roar of tempest? Why here a marriage and there a funeral? Why sometimes a harp and at other times a trumpet?” God knows, and it’s a great blessing when we can leave it all in His hands.
Let the plant come up in the night and it will be a good night. Let the plant wither in the morning and it will be a good morning. (Jonah 4:6-7).
Sometimes great sweetness is found with intense bitterness. I have experienced immense joy in the depths of depression when I lean only on my God. I hardly know how to express this unrivalled pleasure of resting only on the Lord, for when I am hurled on God alone, my soul finds divine peace.
All is well if it is in God’s hands. Let us distinctly recognize God in all our comforts: when they come when we are unworthy, when they come in a form in which we must require them, and when they come when we are most in need.
Never trust Him just a little.

Never give Him only a part of your cares.
Never rest just a portion of your trials on Him.
Lean on Him with all your weight.
