GOD’S WORD FOR NOVEMBER 29

NOVEMBER 29

OUR PERSONAL PROMISES

Psalm 146:9

“The Lord watches over the strangers;  He relieves the fatherless and widow;

But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.”

John 15:26

“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.”

1John 4:16

“And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”

Psalm 103:11-14

“For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;

As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him.

For He knows our frame;  He remembers that we are dust.”

John 16:13

“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

Hebrews 3:7-8

“Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:  ‘Today, if you will hear His voice,  Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,  in the day of trial in the wilderness,”

This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”)  devotional, “Beside Still Waters.”   It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day.  We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed  by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.

PASTOR SPURGEON:

Do you think that the Holy Spirit, the dear, precious, and ever-blessed Holy Spirit, does not have pity on us?  The Holy Spirit condescends to dwell in us as the Helper.  This is matchless condescension.

Do you think that the Comforter (Holy Spirit) cannot sympathize with us?  A comforter without sympathy, who mocks our human woes, would indeed be a strange being.  No, my friend, he is full of tender pity.

Ponder the Holy Spirit’s love.  Never think even for a moment that He is mindless or careless about whether you will perish.  The Triune God is love.

Let us rejoice that God’s people, whose lives are recorded in Scripture, were like us.  I have known many heirs of heaven who have found comfort as they observed how imperfect people have prevailed with God in prayer and been delivered in times of difficulty.

I am glad that the apostles were not perfect.  Had they been perfect, they would have immediately understood all that Jesus said, and we would have lost our Lord’s instructive explanations.  If they had been perfect, they would have lived above all trouble, and the Master would not have said these golden words, “Let not your heart be troubled.” (John 14:1).

Jesus promised, “I will pray the Father and He will give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever…I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” (John 14:16-18)

When trials depress our hearts, and when the most tender ministry fails to give consolation, it is an encouragement for those failing to be comforted to remember the unfailing Comforter and to commit the trial and depression into divine hands.

Since one Person of the blessed Trinity has undertaken to be the Comforter, we see how important it is that our hearts should be filled with consolation.

Happy Christianity, in which it is our duty to be glad!  Blessed gospel, by which we are forbidden to be troubled!
