GOD’S WORD FOR DECEMBER 2

DECEMBER 2

OUR PERSONAL PROMISES

***** *****

Hebrews 11:1-3

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”

Hebrews 11:6

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

Psalm 91:1

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty!”

Psalm 42:5

“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.”

Psalm 70:5

“But I am poor and needy; Make haste to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer..”

Job 8:21

“He will yet fill your mouth with laughing, And your lips with rejoicing.”

This month we will read choices from Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”)  devotional, “Beside Still Waters.”   It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day.  We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed  by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.

PASTOR SPURGEON:

“I believe God.”  This is a grand thing, to believe God when the winds are wild, to believe God when the waves howl like wild beasts seeking to devour you.

“I believe God.”  Faith that can stand a storm is faith’s genuine breed.  The common run of faith is fair-weather faith, which loves to see its beautiful image mirrored in a calm sea.  But fair-weather faith is far away when the storm clouds are marshaling for battle.  The faith of God’s elect is a faith that can see in the dark, a faith that is calm in the chaos, and a faith that is brightest when everything is dark as midnight.

Paul said, “I believe in God,” when he had nothing else to believe in.

“My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him.  He only is my rock and my salvation’; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.”  Psalm 62:5-6.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;  though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling”  Psalm 46:3

Psalm 73:23

“Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand.”

Psalm 94:18

“If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up.”

Psalm 139:1-12

“O Lord, You have searched me and known me.

You know my sitting down and my rising up;

You understand my thought afar off.

You comprehend my path and my lying down,

And are acquainted with all my ways.

For there is not a word on my tongue,

But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.

You have hedged me behind and before,

And laid Your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

It is high, I cannot attain it.”

Where can I go from Your Spirit?

Or where can I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend into heaven, You are there;

If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.

If I take the wings of the morning,

And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

Even there Your hand shall lead me,

And Your right hand shall hold me.

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,”

Even the night shall be light about me;

Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,

But the night shines as the day;

The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
