GOD’S WORD FOR JANUARY 10

JANUARY 10

OUR PERSONAL PROMISES

***** *****

2  Peter 1:3-4

“as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,  by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

Galatians  3:28

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Hebrews 10:19-22

“ Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus,  by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God,  let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

1 Cor 12:4-6

“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.  And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.”

Ephes 1:3

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,”

This month we’re reading  the new devotional   “BecoPming New”,  written by  Warren W. Wiersbe and compiled by his grandson.  Pastor Wiersbe was the President of Moody Bible Institute before the current President, Erwin Lutzer.

THE GLORY OF GOD IN US

Read Exodus 34:28-35 and 2 Corinthians 3

Paul makes the amazing announcement that Christians today can have a “shining face experience’ even greater than that of Moses.  Consider the lessons these passages teach us:

THERE ARE NO SPECIAL PEOPLE

We must never say, “If I were only a prophet like Moses, I could also have a great mountaintop experience with the Lord.”  Although we all have different gifts and callings, God has no “favorites” and God’s grace cares nothing about human merit.  “There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female.  For you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28).  Every obedient and cleansed believer may come boldly into God’s presence to worship and pray.

We all have the privilege of knowing God’s will and, with His help, doing it for His glory.  One day “they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. (1 Corinthians 3:8).

THERE ARE NO SPECIAL PLACES.

“The Most High doesn’t live in temples made by human hands.” (Acts 7:48), nor does He meet with us on fiery mountains.  While we may have meaningful memories associated with special places, simply being in these places does not duplicate past experiences.  While we may have deeply emotional feelings as we remember what God has done, those feelings may prevent us from moving into a new thing God has for us.  It isn’t necessary for us to find a “holy place,” because God knows our needs and can meet them anywhere.

THERE ARE NO EXCLUSIVE BLESSINGS.

Not all opportunities and blessings are given to everyone, but we will be judged according to what we have done with what God gave us and not what others have done with what He gave them.  God chooses His workers and uses them according to His sovereign will, but all His children have been blessed with everything they need to live for God and serve Him. God knows what is best for each of us.

OUR BLESSINGS ARE GREATER THAN OLD TESTAMENT BELIEVERS

Paul explains that God wrote the law on tablets of stone but today He writes His Word on our hearts.  The process of becoming new begins not on the outside but rather in our hearts!

Proverbs 4:23 tells us, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”

The old covenant of law brought death, but the new covenant brings life.  The glory at Sinai is gone, and the glory on Moses’s face faded away, but the glory we receive grows greater.  Moses wore a veil so the people could not see the glory fading away, but we have nothing to hide!

Where you look influences what you become.  As the children of God look into the mirror of the Word of God, they see Jesus and are transformed into His image, “from glory to glory”.  The average person at Sinai couldn’t have had the experience Moses had, but WE CAN – and WE SHOULD!

Moses didn’t know his face was aglow nor will you see your face shine as you fellowship with the Lord but others will see it and take note.  And as our faces glow, (especially in times of pain), others will be attracted to Jesus (Matthew 5:14-16).
