GOD’S WORD FOR MAY 13
MAY 13
OUR PERSONAL PROMISES
Philippians 1:6
“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”
Psalm 138:8
“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.”
Acts 20:24
“But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.”
Hebrews 12:2
“looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

We will be reading from a book by Erwin Lutzer, President of Moody Bible Institute. Dr. Lutzer comes right to the point. It’s a short book about Christ’s sacrifice for us, and is called simply, “For Us.”
Mark 14:35-36
“He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. And He said, ‘Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.’”
The Jews and Romans crucified Jesus. He laid down His life for our sin. But ultimately, God was responsible for the death of Jesus. God could have sent legions of angels to “remove the cup.” And rescue Jesus – but both Father and Son knew this horrible death was the only way to rescue you and me. They were willing to endure it because they both loved us so much.
Do you think your troubles come only from the devil or from the malice of others? That’s the path of bitterness and cynicism. We must grasp the fact that some troubles are part of God’s plan to purify and change us. You and I can endure whatever comes our way – remembering the Son walks beside us, the Spirit upholds us, and the Father will not let us suffer one bit beyond what we can bear with His help. Don’t focus on your pain, focus on God’s purposes for you and the joy He has waiting for us on the other side.

Hebrews 12:1-2
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
