GOD’S WORD FOR MAY 14
MAY 14
OUR PERSONAL PROMISES
Philippians 4:6-7
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Luke 12:27-31
“Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?” And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.
Mark 4:19
“and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.”
Matthew 6:34
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

We will be reading from a book by Erwin Lutzer, President of Moody Bible Institute. Dr. Lutzer comes right to the point, so it’s a short book about Christ’s sacrifice for us. It’s called simply, “For Us.”

Matthew 26:6-16
Why did Judas betray Jesus? For three years he was a full-fledged disciple, doing miracles, preaching to the people. He appeared to love Jesus. He probably even thought he loved Jesus. But he loved money more, so when “crunch time” came, he chose his greater love: thirty pieces of silver. What a worthless exchange for any life, still less, the son of God!
We can’t be too scornful of Judas. We all have the potential for great evil in our hearts, and we all have a tendency to put lesser things, particularly money, before God. Some of the things we choose may even be good, like helping the poor or being active in the church. But if we put them before Jesus, if we let them have our heart, we’ve fallen into the Judas trap.
Examine your heart. Have you placed anything above Jesus Christ? Have you, in your own way, kissed Him and sent Him away to be crucified?

Luke 16:13
“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
(“mammon” is worldliness and money)
