Matthew 5:13-14

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.  You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

Matthew 28:19

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

Mark 16:15

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”

Matthew 24:14

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”

Mark 8:35

“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.”

We are reading a book by Corrie ten Boom, with daily recordings she made to broadcast over Trans World Radio.  Her Dutch family  sheltered Jews during the Nazi invasion of Holland.  As a result, she, her sister Betsy and their father were taken to concentration camps in Germany. The Lord did many miracles to allow both Corrie and Betsy to bring the Gospel to the other women in their camp.   Their father was murdered in an extermination camp and Betsy was sick, dying just two weeks before Corrie and the rest were freed.  After her freedom, Corrie traveled the world, telling everyone even in remote areas, about salvation through Christ, besides radio and writing many books.  This one is entitled, “Not I, but Christ.”

THERE IS WORK TO BE DONE

The Lord Jesus said:  “As My Father has sent Me, even so I send you.” (John 20:21).

For what reason did the Father send Jesus?  To seek and to save that which was lost.  For what reason are we Christians in the world?  To seek that which was lost and to bring it to the Lord.  This is one of the glorious tasks the Lord gives to us, a task that is for every child of God, for the Lord says, in Matthew 5:13 and 14, that we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth.

He also said that we are called to make disciples: in Matthew 28:19.

Are you a Christian?  Are you a child of God, to whom the Lord can also say this?  If not, then don’t wait until the last week of your life, but say today, “take my life, and let it be dedicated to Your honor, Lord.”

If you do this, the Lord will use you to bring the gospel to others.  It is wonderful that we have the privilege of doing so, and that we do not need to do it in our own strength.  We only have to ask the Lord, and He will do it.  He makes us a mirror of His love.  A mirror does not do much in itself:  it hangs or stands in the right place, and then it works.  You and I need not do much; we only have to look at the Lord Jesus, and He will make us a mirror.  He does it well:  He greatly longs for and loves that which is lost.  If we let Him speak through us, this love will also come into our hearts.  OH, how wonderful that is!

Each one of us can witness.  The Lord wants to use us all to bring others to Him.  Sometimes this may be rather difficult, and in these days it can even be very dangerous, In countries without liberty it may be possible that we will have to die for the Lord.  In our days there are many martyrs, who when witnessing for the Lord, are imprisoned or killed.

One day in the concentration camp, I was very encouraged because I was told I was free to go.  I stood before the gate and I knew: as soon as this gate opens, I am free.  In that camp I had been able to bring the gospel to many women, many had found the Lord Jesus.  A great number died with the name of Jesus on their lips.  The Lord had used Betsie, my sister, and me to show them the way.

So now I was standing before the gate.  My sister had died about two weeks earlier.  While I stood there waiting, somebody came to me and said:  “Corrie, I must tell you something.  Today Mrs. de Boer and Mrs. de Goede both died.”

Then I looked at this cruel concentration camp for the last time, and I said:  “Thank You, Lord, that You brought me here, even if only for these two women who were saved for eternity, because they found the way to You.  You used Betsie and me to that end.  Lord, if it were only for these two women, it was worth all our suffering, even Betsie’s death.”

It is worth living and dying if we are being used to save others for eternity.  You and I can be used, whoever we are.

Lord, I thank You ~ we all thank you ~ that You want to use us for this great work.  Light must be spread, and You want to use us.  Thank You, Lord, that You want to use my life perhaps just during the daily routine.  Or perhaps You want to send me as an evangelist or a missionary or pastor, but I thank You, Lord, that wherever we are called our times are in Your hand.  You are the Light of the World, and You make us the light of the world. Hallelujah!  Amen.
