We are reading a book by Corrie ten Boom, with daily recordings she made to broadcast over Trans World Radio.  Her Dutch family  sheltered Jews during the Nazi invasion of Holland.  As a result, she, her sister Betsy and their father were taken to concentration camps in Germany. The Lord did many miracles to allow both Corrie and Betsy to bring the Gospel to the other women in their camp.   Their father was murdered in an extermination camp and Betsy was sick, dying just two weeks before Corrie and the rest were freed.  After her freedom, Corrie traveled the world, telling everyone even in remote areas, about salvation through Christ, besides radio and writing many books.  This one is entitled, “Not I, but Christ.”

KEEP WATCH ALWAYS

In Luke 21:34-35, Jesus said:

“But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.  For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.”

The cares of this life can keep us so busy that the day of the Lord will come upon us unawares and as a snare.  But not only the cares come, but the pleasant things we are looking forward to – the harvest of a new field, a warm coat, a vacation, a Bible study – in themselves such good things.

If at any time our lives were in real danger during World War II during the bombings or while in prison, it was as if suddenly we saw things from God’s stand-pint.  Our perspective was changed because we touched, in a sense, death and therefore eternity.  We saw small things, small; great things, great; we saw all things in the right proportion.

Through the conflicts in the Middle East, death touches the world.  We do not yet know what it will lead do.  Rarely do we read the Biblical prophecies together with the newspapers with so much concentration.

The Bible says in Luke 21:36:  “Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Keep watch always ~ also today.

It is wonderful that we can be ready – you and I and everyone who belongs to Jesus.  It is a matter of complete surrender to Him who said:  “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28).

He loves and longs for you and me.  He Himself wants to prepare us for His coming.

My father had such wonderful sayings, which he repeated often – but never too often.  This is what he said about Jesus:

“If He takes us by the hand, He holds us fast.

If He holds us fast, He leads us on.

If He leads us on, one day He will bring us safely home.”

Isn’t that wonderful?  Just put your hand now, at this moment, into His hand.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, that on the cross You bore our sins and those of the whole world, and that You want to make us children of God, everyone who wants to accept it.  Thank you that You Yourself want to prepare us for Your coming again by your Holy Spirit, and that You want us to abound in love one toward another.

Thank you that you want to strengthen our hearts.  In these turbulent days, we need strong hearts.  Thank you that You want to prepare us for that glorious day when we shall see You face to face.  Come quickly, Lord Jesus, please!  Amen
