GOD’S WORD FOR SEPTEMBER 30
GOD’S WORD FOR SEPTEMBER 30
We are using Charles Spurgeon book, “The Risen King.” It’s a collection of well chosen excerpts from Spurgeon’s “Easter” sermons in devotional form, put together by Jeff Medders. Pastor Spurgeon lived from 1834 to 1892 in London, England, and had a unique gift of understanding and showing the depth of our faith. Thus, his reverential title as the Prince of Preachers. Even though we’re not in or near that season, every day is a good day to focus on Christ’s sacrifice and victory for us!
JESUS FEEDS THE CROWDS
Matthew 14:15-21
“ When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, “This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.” But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” He said, “Bring them here to Me.” Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.”
Look at the simple act of faith that Christ summons from His disciples. “Bring them here to Me.” Let us bring all we have to Christ in faith, laying it at His feet, believing that His great power can make little means suffice for mighty ends.
LORD, THERE ARE ONLY FIVE LOAVES. They were only five loaves when we had them in our hands, but in His hands, they are food for five thousand men. (besides women and children).
LORD, THERE ARE TWO FISHES. They were insignificant while they were ours, but His touch has ennobled them, and those little fishes have become food for a vast multitude.
Blessed is the believer who, feeling that he or she has truly consecrated all to God, can say, “I do not want more talent. I do not need more affluence. I would not wish to have more – there is enough for my work and ministry. I know it is utterly insufficient in itself, but our sufficiency is of God.”
Oh, dear friends, we ought to believe that there are enough means when Christ blesses what we bring to Him. We can bring our meager talents and abilities to Him – and watch Him work!
In bringing your talent to Him, you put it into His hand, which was pierced for you. You give it to Him who is your dearest friend. You give it to Him who did not spare the blood of His heart, that He might redeem you.
Do you not love Him? Is it not an honor to be permitted to show your love to so notable and noble as person? When you have brought your talent to Christ, your next duty is to look up. Thank God for what you have got. Look up and say, “there is nothing in what I do, there is nothing in my prayer, my preaching, my goings or my doings except Your blessing, Lord. Please bless it!”
He gives the blessing on it, and then He gives it back to you to give to others. Meet with Christ on your own first; receive His blessing and bounty, and then serve others. We get in private what we distribute in public. He gives to us; we give to others. Do not discount the fish and bread in your hands. Do not doubt – –
Christ is with us, and we can…..
God is for us, and we can……
The Holy Spirit is in us, and we can……
God the Holy Spirit calls us; Jesus Christ, the Son of God cheers us: God the Father smiles upon us.
When the feast was finished, each disciple had a basketful of food to carry back to His Master’s feet. Give yourself to Christ, and when you have used yourself for His glory you will be more able to serve Him than you are now.

Think much of Christ. Consider how He can use you in His Kingdom.
