GOD’S WORD FOR JANUARY 29

GOD’S WORD FOR JANUARY 29

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.

THE BEST OF A BAD DECISION

Genesis 3:13

D.L. MOODY

What had Eve done?  She had disobeyed God.  She had turned from the fountain of life to the fountain of death, and had drunk from that fountain.  She had introduced sin into the world.

God let her live long enough on the face of the Earth to see what she had done.  The first child that was born after the fall was a murderer.  (Genesis 4:1-8).   She lived nearly a thousand years, if she lived as long as Adam, and had a chance to see something of the untold woe and misery she had introduced into this world.

ERWIN LUTZER

What’s the worst decision ever made?  Well, as Moody pointed out, it was the sin of Adam and Eve, turning from the fountain of life to the fountain of death.  No decision has ever had such far-reaching consequences into eternity.

Like Eve, there are two lies we are tempted to believe.

The first lie says, “One sin doesn’t matter.”

The devil’s second lie says, “Now that you have fallen, there’s no use standing up.”

But God promised Adam and Eve that redemption would be available.  As proof, He gave them garments of skin to cover their shame.  Already in the garden, God’s plan of redemption began to be realized.

Do you think you have sinned too much for God?  You have not.  Adam and Eve could not return to their days of innocence, they were kept from returning to Paradise.  Not even Satan could keep God from giving fallen humanity forgiveness and redemption.

PRAYER

Father, thank you for your redemption.  Please help me to know that there is more grace in Your heart than sin in my past.

Psalm 18:35-36

You have also given me the shield of Your salvation;

Your right hand has held me up,

Your gentleness has made me great.

You enlarged my path under me,

So my feet did not slip.

Romans 3:23-24

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
