GOD’S WORD FOR JANUARY 30
GOD’S WORD FOR JANUARY 30
We are reading from a daily devotional called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer and the late, great D.L. Moody. Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.

DESPERATE BEFORE GOD
Psalm 66:18
“If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.”
D.L. MOODY
I sometimes tremble when I hear people quote promises and say that God is bound to fulfill those promises to them when, all the time, there is some sin in their lives they are not willing to give up. It is well for us to search our hearts and find out why it is that our prayers are not answered.
ERWIN LUTZER
To be alone in the presence of God is the only path of self-discovery.
Only with total openness in His presence do we know who we are –nothing more, nothing less. Your identity is not who your friends, your family, or even your church thinks you are. Ask yourself, “who am I in God’s presence?”
Moody was right about stressing the need for self-examination. We must pray, “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! See if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” (Psalm 139:23-24).
We must come to God in desperation, willing to see what He shows us about ourselves. Like Jacob, we often wrestle with God, but just as God crippled Jacob, our weakness will become our strength.
Sin left unconquered saps our joy and steals our fellowship with God.
PRAYER
God, I open my life to you. Search me and show me what You see.
Please grant me the humility to be able to admit who I am so I can become who YOU want me to be. I give myself to You unreservedly.

Psalm 32:5
I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Isaiah 30:15
For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: “In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” But you would not,

Psalm 19:13-14
Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless,
And I shall be innocent of great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.
