GOD’S WORD FOR FEBRUARY 5
GOD’S WORD FOR FEBRUARY 5
We are reading from a daily devotional called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer and the late, great D.L. Moody. Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.

MEDITATION’S GOAL
Nehemiah 8:8
“So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading.”
D.L. MOODY
We must study the Bible thoroughly and hunt it through, as it were, for some great truth.
If a friend were to see me searching about a building and were to come up and say, “Moody, what are you looking for? Have you lost something?” and I answered, “No. I haven’t lost anything: I’m not looking for anything in particular.” I fancy he would just let me go on by myself and think me very foolish. But if I were to say, “Yes, I have lost a dollar.” I might expect him to help me to find it.
Read the Bible as if you were seeking for something of value. It is a good deal better to take a single chapter and spend a month on it than to read the Bible at random for a month.
ERWIN LUTZER
There are two ways to read the Bible, just as there are two ways to take a trip. For some, the goal is simple –get to the destination. We set goals to steadily read Scripture, focused on Jesus and the overarching drama of redemption. One danger of an annual Bible reading plan is that if we’re busy, we tend to read quickly just to get through the reading for that day.
The other way to travel is to enjoy the journey. In Scripture reading, this is meditation. Perhaps choose twelve books of the Bible from different genres – psalms, narratives, or epistles. Then reread, study, and pray through one book each month. Even just a few verses can be food for your soul.
Both styles of travel guide you to encounter God.
We should always read to ANALYZE, by asking thoughtful questions of the text.
Then we PERSONALIZE: “How should this text change me?”
Finally, we MEMORIZE specific sections.
When we meditate on Scripture daily, we’ll be stable in adversity and prosperous in each season of life.
