GOD’S WORD FOR FEBRUARY 12

GOD’S WORD FOR FEBRUARY 12

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.

TRANSFER OF TRUST

Romans 10:9

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

D.L. MOODY

I do not know of any more important truth to bring before an unconverted person than the answer to the question, “What must I do to be saved?” because that is the beginning of everything with regard to the divine life.  A  man must know he is saved before there is any peace or joy or comfort.  The answer is, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.”  (Acts 16:31).

The question that comes right after that from almost everyone is, “What is it to believe?”  I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God:   I believe that He came into the world to save sinners.   Well, so do the devils.  The devils not only believe, but they tremble, (James 2:19).   I  can believe intellectually that Jesus Christ is able and willing to save and yet be as far from the kingdom of God as any man who never heard about Jesus Christ.  To be saved, I must believe in my heart and trust in His atoning work.

ERWIN LUTZER

Moody is correct:  Faith in Christ is  more than mere mental assent.  Some say, “I love and admire Jesus.  I attend church.  I’m a good person.”  That’s not true faith.  Facts alone don’t save.

Faith is an attitude of trust, the transferring of trust from ourselves to Christ.   Faith presupposes an awareness of our sin, our inability to deal with the guilt, and therefore, our need to call on Jesus to  give us both forgiveness and acceptance before God.  Right now, you can savingly believe on Jesus through repentance and faith.

PRAYER

“Lord, thank You for the great miracle of salvation that You have done for me and in me.  Please help me to live for You and please increase my faith in You.”

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

(The original Greek word translated correctly as “believes” has a deeper meaning in the original language than our English word.  The actual meaning is to fully trust in, to fully depend upon, to be united with……. Which is what Jesus asks us to do.)
