GOD’S WORD FOR FEBRUARY 17

GOD’S WORD FOR FEBRUARY 17

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.

DIRTY, UGLY TREASURE

Matthew 6:21

“for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

D.L. MOODY

It does not take long to tell where a man’s treasure is.  In fifteen minutes’ conversation with most men, you can tell whether their treasures are on Earth or in heaven.  Talk to a patriot about his country, and you will see his eye light up:  you will find he has his heart there.  Talk to businessmen and tell them where they can make a thousand dollars, and see their interest:  their hearts are there.  Talk to people who are living just for fashion, of its affairs, and you will see their eyes kindle, they are interested at once, their hearts are there.  Talk to a politician about politics, and you see how suddenly he becomes interested, and talk to a child of God, who is really laying up treasures in heaven, about heaven, and about his future home, and he responds at once, there are chords in his heart that vibrate at the thought of heaven and home.

ERWIN LUTZER

The temptations of this world are unrelenting, and we know this world is a rather dirty place – moral and spiritual pollution is everywhere.  All that incites us to sin would be quite manageable if only there wasn’t something within us that desires to sin.  Sometimes we follow distantly behind Christ.  That’s why, as Moody said, we sometimes find it easier to talk about matters of Earth rather than matters of heaven.

The first step in cleaning up our mouths is to clean up our hearts.  If you believe what the Bible teaches and yet you are not walking in obedience, how can you expect to speak of Christ?   As Jesus put it, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34).

Who is your master?  Are you dirty in the world or clean in Christ?  Repent of all that makes you more conversant about the things of Earth than the things of heaven.

PRAYER

Father, please forgive me for serving the world.

May my treasure be found in You.  May I joyfully speak of heavenly things to others.
