GOD’S WORD FOR FEBRUARY 19

GOD’S WORD FOR FEBRUARY 19

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.

LIE TO ME

Genesis 3:10

“And he said, “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”

D.L. MOODY

Most of us live away from home.  We are hiding as Adam did in the bushes of Eden.  There was a time when God’s voice thrilled Adam’s soul with joy and gladness, and he thrilled God’s heart with joy.    They lived in sweet fellowship with each other.  God had lifted Adam to the very gates of heaven and had made him Lord over all creation.  I haven’t a doubt that he had plans to raise Adam still higher – higher than the angels, higher than seraphim and cherubim, higher than Gabriel, who stands in the presence of Jehovah, and Michael, the archangel.  But the man turned and became a traitor to him who wanted to bless him.

ERWIN LUTZER

Adam and Eve lived in a perfect environment.  They were created in an enchanting orchard  where they could eat from a variety of trees.  Just one was forbidden.  Satan, of course, focused in on that one tree, that one negative.  He does the same today.  Satan tells us that if God were good, we would be able to eat of any tree, even the tempting trees of the world.

He wants to blind us to all the promises and blessings we have in Christ.

Eve was deceived – it was genuine deception.  She was deceived by thinking the words of the serpent were more reliable than those of God.  Adam was not deceived, we are told in 1 Timothy 2:14.  He knew it was wrong, but he ate anyway.  He was willingly deceived.

Standing next to the forbidden tree, the terrible consequences of their sin was hidden from them.  The same is true today:  We do not see the terrible consequences even one sin can bring about.  Let us not fall into the deceptions of the world.

PRAYER

Father, I’m prone to deception and I desire to do my own thing.  Would you come to me in power?  Please show me Your grace and Your glory.
