GOD’S WORD FOR MARCH 30
GOD’S WORD FOR MARCH 30
We are reading from a daily devotional called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer and the late, great D.L. Moody. Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his. Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there. He is Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.
A DEAD SINNER OR A LIVING CHRISTIAN
John 8:21
“So He said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek Me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.”
D.L. MOODY
One sentence from the lips of the Son of God in regard to the future state of unbeliever has forever settled it in my mind. You “shall die in your sins; where I go, you cannot come.” If a man has not given up his drunkenness, his profanity, his licentiousness, his covetousness, heaven would be hell to him. Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people. What would a man do in heaven who cannot bear to be in the society of the pure and holy down here?
ERWIN LUTZER
Perhaps you have noticed the word “sin” has basically dropped from our culture’s vocabulary. But if you have a wrong view of sin, you will be wrong about everything in the world that really matters. Your understanding of sin determines who you are as a person and your understanding of God’s grace. Without understanding “the sinfulness of sin” we will trivialize our sin.
When sin is exposed, our first tendency as humans is to deny it, then we minimize it, and finally, we compare our sin to someone else who we think is worse than we are. So, we go our way through life managing our sin, doing the best we can. We who love evil cannot begin to love good. We need God’s intervention. Through Christ’s work on the cross, God opens our hearts to believe in Him and then we begin to hate sin.
Apart from God, we remain dead in our sins and eternally separated from Him.
PRAYER
Lord, please show me the enormity of y sin so that I might rejoice in the enormity of Your grace.
