GOD’S WORD FOR APRIL 7
GOD’S WORD FOR APRIL 7
We are reading from a daily devotional called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer and the late, great D.L. Moody. Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his. Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there. He is Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.
THE ULTIMATE WEDDING
John 14:3
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”
D.L. MOODY
If my wife were in a foreign country, and I had a beautiful mansion all ready for her, she would a good deal rather I should come myself and bring her to it than have me send someone else to bring her to it. Christ has prepared a mansion for His bride, the church, and He promises for our joy and comfort that He will come Himself and bring us to the place He has been preparing.
ERWIN LUTZER
Think of the most joyous wedding you’ve ever attended. Now consider the ultimate marriage in heaven – a wedding ceremony – one that is distinctly out of this world. The heavenly wedding has no such vows saying, “Until death do us part,” because there is no death that will ever part us. It is the marriage between Jesus Christ and His Church. Wedded to Him forever!
Believers in Christ are engaged to the Bridegroom. Our dowry was paid with the blood of Jesus. While we wait for Him, He is preparing our new homes and the wedding feast, and when He returns for us, we will be revealed with Him in glory.
Why is our welcome in glory the “marriage supper of the Lamb?” I believe the reason is because we fell in love with the Lamb, and it is the Lamb who gave Himself for us (See Revelation 19:7-10). Jesus is the only groom who laid down His life for His bride and rose again to redeem her, cleanse her, and marry her.
PRAYER
Father, today and throughout all of eternity, please let me repeatedly sing with the saints, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.”
