GOD’S WORD FOR  APRIL 8

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.  Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there.  He is  Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.

GOD SPEAKS IN THE PAGES OF SCRIPTURE

Psalm 119:38

Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.

We have a great any prayer meetings, but there is something just as important as prayer, and that is that we read our Bibles, that we have Bible study and Bible lectures and Bible classes so that we may get hold of the Word of God.  When I pray, I talk to God, but when I read the Bible, God is talking to me;  and it is really more important that God should speak to me than that I should speak to Him.  I believe we should know better how to pray if we knew our Bibles better.

ERWIN LUTZER

Christianity claims to be a revealed religion, and there are other religions claiming to be revealed.  Joseph Smith claims he had a revelation from an angel.  Of course, Muhammad claims to have had a revelation.  But when you talk about  revelations, you must test them for authenticity and consistency.  Do they make sense?  You must also test them for their truth value.  Do they really explain reality?  There is much about the Bible that commends it as the very Word of God.

Christianity is totally unique and different.  Instead of one author, there are at least forty distinct authors of the book that we call the Bible, and they were all addressing the same issues – God, man, sin and redemption.  Scripture points to one Redeemer:  the Word made flesh.  As Moody said, when we read the Bible, God is talking to us.

Let us read the Scripture and let us pray the Scripture.  Then we shall have rest for oyur souls.

Father, please guide me to love Your Word and to live by Your Will.
