GOD’S WORD FOR APRIL 9
GOD’S WORD FOR APRIL 9
We are reading from a daily devotional called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer and the late, great D.L. Moody. Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his. Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there. He is Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.
GARDENS OF DESIRE
Galatians 6:7
“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.
D.L. MOODY
This law is just as true in God’s kingdom as in man’s kingdom; just as true in the spiritual world as in the natural world. If I sow weeds, I am going to reap weeds; if I sow a lie, I am going to reap lies; if I sow adultery, I am going to reap adulterers; if I sow whisky, I am going to reap drunkards. You cannot blot this law out, it is in force. No other truth in the Bible is more solemn.
ERWIN LUTZER
God enables us to grow like fruit, but we have a responsibility of sowing rightly in the Spirit. The desire you give in to the most often is the desire that will become the strongest. If you sow to the flesh, your fleshly desires will grow stronger and stronger and stronger. But if you sow to the Spirit, the flesh (love of sin and worldly pleasures) will become weaker, and the work of the Spirit will grow stronger. When we are out of agreement with the Holy Spirit, we are vulnerable to sow to the flesh and will reap accordingly.
As fallen human beings, we often succumb to the flesh despite the power of the Holy Spirit who is available to strengthen us. Our great desire should always be that we walk in the Spirit and not the flesh. At a time of temptation, let us remember that:
“He who is in you (Christ, if you are saved) is greater than he who is in the world (satan).” (1 John 4:4).
Let us walk in that truth today!
PRAYER
Lord, today I choose to walk in the Spirit and I choose to sow to the Spirit and not to the flesh.
