GOD’S WORD FOR APRIL 13
GOD’S WORD FOR APRIL 13
We are reading from a daily devotional called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer and the late, great D.L. Moody. Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his. Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there. He is Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.
GLORY IS COMING
Mark 9:8
“And suddenly looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only.”
D.L. MOODY
What a dark night it would have been if our Lor and Master had been caught up with Moses and Elijah, and no Christ had died for our sins. Oh how Jesus Christ has lit up this world! But suppose He had gone up to heaven on the other side of Calvary and had never finished His work. Suppose that God, in His love for His Son, had said: “I can’t let those men spit on you and hit you: I will take you back home.” What darkness would have settled down on this world! But Moses disappeared, and Elijah disappeared, and Christ only was left, for Christ is all! The law and the prophets were honored and fulfilled in Him.
ERWIN LUTZER
When Jesus left for Earth, He set His glory aside. But at the Mount of Transfiguration, His inner nature broke forth. Jesus revealed to His followers a sliver of his radiant glory. Jesus had already told His disciples He was going to die, but they vehemently protested. Even at Moses’ and Elijah’s appearing, they began discussing Jesus’ “departure.” (Luke 9:30-36).
For Jesus, pleasing the Father with the redemption of sinners, was worth the “joy set before Him” (Hebrews 12:2). First comes the cross, then comes the crown. First comes agony then comes glory. That’s why Jesus brought His disciples up the mountain – to encourage them to know that although He would die, they should remember the glory that awaits them.
In John 17:22, Jesus prayed to the Father for us that “the glory that You have given e I have given to them.” The glory the disciples saw on the mountain, will someday be ours too!!!!
PRAYER
Father, thank You that every believer will enjoy and participate in the glory of Christ. I look forward to the day when I will be like Him, when I shall see Him as He is.”
