ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE
ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE
Mark 9:23 “Jesus said unto him, ‘if you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes.”
So many who call themselves Christians, and many pastors, use this verse freely, to show people that what they want in this life, Jesus will get for them….like an errand boy. They need only to believe that He will get it for them, and it will be so….like a magic fairyland story.
It is presented as needing faith in the miracle, but that is not what this and other similar verses are saying. One needs to study the root words of the key words in the verse.
As in John 3:16, everywhere the word “believe” is used, it means far more than our English word indicates. It, in all its forms, means a deep commitment, and trust in Jesus, not in each act that He did. It means a complete submission to His Will for our lives, not asking for what WE want and “believing” that He will obey US and give it to us.
There are preachers who say that because of God’s integrity, He must answer our prayers, because He gave us His Life. They say our prayers should be specific…not just a mink coat, but, tell God the color and size!!!!! That is blasphemy!!! Our Lord God, Almighty Creator of the Universe and beyond, need not do anything WE say!!!
To believe in Him is to put ourselves totally under His feet, on our faces in humility and awe-stricken repentance, keeping that spiritual posture every minute of our lives!!!!
When we are in that relationship with Him, we will be at peace, knowing that whatever happens will be His will, and will be for our good.
Therefore, all things ARE possible, for with God all things are certainly possible, but we need to be ready to accept His will for us, and not demand what those possible things will be.
Ps 37:4 is also often quoted out of context, teaching people that they can tell God what to do, and call it “faith”. But, when read in its entirety, it is perfectly clear that there is much more to it than believing God can and will do what we want.
Psalm 37:3-5
King James Version (KJV)
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
We must delight ourselves in the Lord, and when we do, His desires become our desires. When we commit our way unto the Lord, trust totally in Him (not in what He will do for us) then, His will will be done in our lives, and that WILL BE our desire. For more clarification, read the rest of Psalm 37.
Many Christians and preachers cheapen the Word of God, and make Our Lord a servant to His People. That will not be tolerated by Almighty God for long.
