WHY IS THE CHURCH ASKING FOR A KING?
WHY IS THE CHURCH ASKING FOR A KING????
In I Samuel chapter 8, Israel didn’t want to have prophets or judges any longer. They wanted an earthly king. They said it was because of the corruptness of Samuel’s sons, but verses 5 and 20 show their real reason. They wanted freedom to do as they want, let their king take on the problems, and not have the Lord “looking over their shoulders” in the form of a prophet and judge. They wanted to be like “other nations”. Here’s how it went. (My words in parenthesis are to help you apply the verses to us today)
4. “Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, (the elders and committees of the churches got together and talked about the pressure from the gays, atheists, IRS, and other anti-Christian groups and government agencies, to compromise on Biblical beliefs)
5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.” (They said that the pressure is great, and their leaders aren’t standing against it, and they can’t do it themselves)
*************************
Let’s stop here, and note that there is no conferring with the Lord on this, just committees, and maybe nominal prayer, but the fact remains, that the focus of power is on the pressure from secular government and groups, not the power and Righteousness of Our Lord!
****************************
6 “But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD.
7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. (the churches aren’t keeping the peace, or being “tolerant”…they are rejecting The Lord’s rule over them!)
8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. (Jesus died and rose for us, taking our sins, and we are to submit totally to Him, in our lives and our churches, and many churches, and Christians are forsaking Him through compromise.)
9 Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and show them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.”
(The Lord has shown us, over and over again, and we have His written Word, which the Jews at that time did not have, and YET, many churches have turned their backs on fully following and obeying the God of Israel!!!!)
He then goes into a long list of evils the kings will do to the people, and to God.. The Lord is warning them that the kings will be more evil than the sons of Samuel, and that, in addition, God will let them suffer for their decision to turn from His Judgment and Wisdom. The list could have been written today, about our nation and others…the corruptness, forceful show of power, and evil “in God’s face” attitude.
~~~~ then Samuel continues:
8 “And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day. (And still, people, who believe the false teaching of pre-tribulation rapture, can still say that Jesus will come any day now and take us away from all this. I ask you…..why should He? He has warned the churches, and they have refused to stay with Him. They have voluntarily believed the false doctrine that will cause the “great falling away” that Jesus spoke about,(that He will come for the church before the tribulation) and they, as a result, have no courage or spiritual stamina to stand against the anti-christ beast when he comes, and many will lose their salvation.)
19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
20 That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles. ( Go along with the political flow to keep the peace)
21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.
22 And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.” (I will allow your corrupt leaders, the puppets of the devil, to do what they will, because you, My people, have gone along with their evil)
So, God gave them a king, and that was Saul, who turned from obeying God, and the Books of 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings are full of the turning of Israel and Judah from God, and returning, and turning away again.
Some corruptions became as permanent stains, and never left. There was compromise with the pagan gods, and disobedience clouding their relationship with the One True God from that time on.
Then again in Hosea Chapter 8, we see:
1 “ Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.
2 Israel (read, the church) shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.
3 Israel (read, the church) hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.
4 They have set up kings, but not by Me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.”
Since the Christian Church is the People of God, corresponding to the Chosen People of the Old Testament, we can apply the lessons of the Old Testament to ourselves. (As I showed in the statements in parenthesis above)
The same pattern has been followed by many of the denominational churches.
If we prayerfully compare church beliefs with the True Word of God, we see many fallacies emerging in the church doctrines that speak of compromise with the secular world….We’re seeing churches obeying the ever growing laws against Christians in many nations, including the United States, instead of standing their ground in the Power of Jesus Christ to stay true to the Word of God.
Money (read “idols”) has become more important than obeying God (see Hosea 8:4 above)
They have, in effect, made the secular leaders their kings, and obeyed the evil they put forth, instead of listening to Our Lord.
In Revelations 21:8, we see this:
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
Note the fearful are sent to the lake of fire with the worst sinners.
Why are the churches going along with the sin of the world? Out of fear, and out of greed for power and money. These reasons are abominable to God.
God is tired of hearing people use the excuses they do….”the church isn’t supposed to get into politics…”render onto Ceasar….etc.”
Or, the over-used one…”Jesus is coming soon”….
These are sickening excuses to Our Lord. They show ignorance of the Word of God, ignorance of the Personality of God, of the Righteousness and Power of God, and they show laziness and fear!!!
IF WE, THE CHURCH DON’T STAND UP FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS, WHO WILL?
If God turned His back on His people in the Old Testament for doing the same thing, what makes you think He won’t do it today, to show His people that He is the GREAT I AM!!!!
HE IS THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOREVER, and He means business!!!!
Its time His people do!!!!
If your church is compromising, do what you can to change it. If you can’t, then you still can stand, as an individual, against the evil that surrounds us. Talk to others, stand by signing petitions, speaking, writing letters, bumper stickers, and pray, pray, pray, for the people who are falling away from True Discipleship to Our Great Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, through this hideous compromise. Teach your children and grandchildren to stand, no matter what happens.
But most importantly, study the scripture for yourself, prayerfully and earnestly, and don’t blindly follow your denomination. He is your personal Lord and saviour, and He wants to talk to you. You have to stand before Him at the end, not your church, so we all need to obey what He told us in 2Timothy 2:15~ “ Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” We need to know the Truth to set others free!!!!!
Our God is infinitely stronger than any secular government. Remember, 1John 4:4~
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
Also, remember what Jesus said to us: in Matthew 10:28 ~ “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Also, He speaks to us in:
1 John 2:17, 3:13 4:1 4:5 4:17 5:4 5:19
Remember, when we determine to stand, He will give us the courage and strength to do it. I know this from experience, and I KNOW it to be true!!!!!
May God bless you and strengthen you in all wisdom and courage in righteousness through Christ Jesus Our Lord.
