NEATLY FOLDED

John 20:6-7~ ~ “ So Simon Peter also came, following him, and he entered the tomb; and he looked at the linen wrappings lying there,  and the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings but folded up in a place by itself.”

HE IS RISEN!!!

Some of you may have heard this before, but I think it bears repeating. It is so beautiful!

Why did the Holy Spirit inspire John to use a whole verse to go into detail about the positioning of the cloths that the body of Jesus was wrapped in? Is that really important in the excitement of His body being gone??!!!

Yes it is, because it was a message that Our Lord left for us. Most people in those days of any position at all had slaves. The slaves, of course, set the tables for meals, and served their master, then left the room while he and his guests ate. They weren’t allowed to touch anything on the table until they were sure their master was finished.

When the master was finished eating, He would take the cloth which was folded up next to his plate, wipe his hands and face, and toss the balled-up cloth randomly on the table, get up and leave the room. This told the servant that he was finished, and he could clear the table.

But if the master got called away in the middle of the meal, he didn’t want the servant to come and take his food prematurely, because he would be back to finish the meal. In that case, he would wipe his hands and face on the napkin, fold it again neatly, and put it back into the position beside his plate.

This would tell the servant that he is not finished, and he is coming back to finish.

When Jesus folded the cloth that was around His face, He was telling His disciples AND US that HE IS COMING BACK!!!

HIS Resurrection assures us of OUR resurrections, because HE IS THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE!!!!

John 11:25 Amp ~ ~ “Jesus said to her, “I am the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in (adheres to, trusts in, relies on) Me [as Savior] will live even if he dies;”
