GOD’S WORD FOR SEPTEMBER 1 ~ ~ John 19:38~ ~ “And after this Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus….”
“but just as it is written: “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the human heart, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.”
The Bible most frequently associates the idea of secret communications with something evil. But sometimes, God uses secret communication for His purpose, as He did when Joseph of Arimathea secretly went to Pilate to secure the body of Jesus.
God has also given some animals the ability to communicate secretly. Take, for example, the Swordtail fish – like the one you might have in your aquarium. In the wild, this fish has a problem. They share their habitat with the Mexican tetras that are an aggressive predator and their favorite meal is Swordtail.
Yet, like many other fish, the male Swordtail must conduct a conspicuous male courting dance to mate. Even so, at mating time while the male is conducting his dance, the aggressive tetras pay no extra attention to his show.
Researchers were puzzled until they discovered that the Swordtail conducts his mating communication on a secure channel that the tetras cannot see. They found that Swordtails have a stripe down the length of their body that reflects ultraviolet light essential to their mating communications. Examination of the tetras’ eye lenses show that they cannot see ultraviolet light. So the tetras miss the whole show!!
Just as the Swordtail cannot see ultraviolet light, and thus are blinded to a meal that would nourish them, so many people cannot see what God has to nourish their souls.
Not only can the majority of people not see their need for a personal relationship with Christ, but even those of us who have, don’t always understand all that He wants to do for us, in us, and through us. Nor do we always know what He is saying to us. That’s because there is a different form of communication that isn’t obvious to the world, as it isn’t obvious to the tetra. When we walk in the Spirit, and spend time in His Word, we dwell in that communication.
“The one who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
“The one who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will reveal Myself to him.”
But when Christ comes back, all eyes will see Him, and all knees will kneel to Him.
“I have sworn by Myself; The word has gone out from My mouth in righteousness And will not turn back, That to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.”
and again, 3000 years later:
“so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,”
Not all will bow in adoration. Some, who still reject Him, or were in the world and never really knew, Him, will bow and kneel in great fear, knowing they’re in for an eternity of separation and punishment. But, all people will see Him at that time.
Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all flesh will see it together; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light.
Which side do you want to be on? To just casually know that He lived and died for you, even knowing that He is God, will not bring the revelation of Him as your Lord and Savior. That decision is for you to decide.
When He comes, or when you die, make sure you see the “ultraviolet light” of His Glory, and make sure He knows you as one of His. Don’t miss an eternity of joy, like the tetra miss their meal for lack of knowledge of what’s going on.
