GOD’S WORD FOR SEPTEMBER 27
GOD’S WORD FOR SEPTEMBER 27 ~ ~ Exodus 12:12 ~ ~ “For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I [am] the LORD.”
Everything in the Bible is proven in the physical world. Even back in history, the writings of secular historians agree perfectly with the Biblical accounts.
When God worked through Moses and his brother Aaron to free the people from 300 years of slavery in Egypt, the plagues weren’t just random events with no meaning. He was not at war with Pharaoh personally. He was in a war against the false gods of Egypt, which were merely demons, as all gods other than the One True God, Elohim, are, even in our times.
When God turned the Nile water into blood, He was acting against Hapi, the Egyptian god, who was honored as the giver of life. When the river turned to blood, it was no longer able to give life.
When Egypt filled with frogs, God showed that the frog-headed goddess Hekt, responsible for creation and fertility, could not even control the fertility of frogs.
The massive death of Egypt’s cattle was an attack on Hathor. Hathor was the cow-headed goddess of love, one of the oldest Egyptian gods, and the one that was worshipped by Pharaoh.
The hail was God’s judgment against the sky goddess Nut who was also mother of the sun god. It was her job to protect the land from destruction that came from the heavens.
The three days of darkness showed the powerlessness of Amon-Re, one of Egypt’s main gods.
Finally, the death of Pharaoh’s firstborn and then Pharaoh, both considered living gods, left no doubt about the all-powerful nature of Israel’s true God.
When Pharaoh let them go, and the people of Egypt gladly gave them gifts to get rid of them, for their own relief, they thought all was well. But Pharaoh changed his mind and pursued them, destroying himself and his entire army when the waters went back into the Red Sea. Apparently he didn’t get the message that his gods were impotent.
Today, people still look to things in this world to give them what only the true Creator God can give them. This is the same thing as worshipping the gold statues of the Egyptians and other people groups. We are no different today. Money, homes, cars, careers, beauty, youth, prestige, power, entertainment, sports, and the list goes on. It’s just different things, but the same thinking.
Yet, it is the creation itself that bears witness to the only true God. It’s all around us, and it can’t be denied. We can choose to overlook it, or look around it, in order to put ourselves above God, but in the end, just like Pharaoh, it will prove fatal to us.
Only the True God of the Universe sacrificed all for us. Why would we want anything else?
