GOD’S WORD FOR JANUARY 3
GOD’S WORD FOR JANUARY 3 ~ ~ Psalm 37:3-5 ~ ~ “Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
The last half of verse 4 is quoted often, to build faith. “He shall give thee the desires of thine heart” The problem is, many times, only that second part is quoted, so people try and try, in their minds, to believe that God will give them EVERYTHING that they can think of to pray for…money, comfort, material things….This is far from what the verse is intended to teach us.
The rest of it says to Trust in the Lord and do good, delight thyself in the Lord, commit thy way to the Lord, and trust in Him. This means that we are to spend the rest of our lives, after salvation, fellowshiping with Our Lord, reading His Word prayerfully, hearing His voice in our situations, allowing Him to change us, mold us, correct us, and chastise us.
The goal is to be so in tune with His mind, that we will be automatically in His will for us.
1 Corinthians 2:16 says
“For who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ”
When He is the primary thing on our minds, our minds will mold to our spirits, and therefore, to His Spirit, and we will be one with Him as He prayed in John 17:21
“that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.”
The simple thing that people “forget” is that “GOD IS GOD AND I’M NOT” He is the Creator of the Universe and beyond, He is the Lord of Lords, King of Kings, Almighty God. He can, and will, do whatever He wants, within His laws of Love.
Sometimes we, as human beings, become almost arrogant in our dealings with God. Bible scholars and teachers, preachers and church conventions, put Him in a “box”….they try to say what He will or will not do, as they study the Word.
Sometimes they have paths they think we have to go down
before we can be saved, and signs that should follow. God is God, He knows our hearts, and He will do what He will do. All we need to do is totally submit to His will in our lives. He may choose to make someone very wealthy, another, equally devoted to Him, He may authorize a difficult life. Just as there are many different gifts there are many different types of lives that are His gifts also.
Whether good or bad, happy or sad, our goal as Christians is to desire nothing more or less than His perfect will in our lives, for ourselves and our families.
When we have come to the point where we truly desire that (and we cannot do that alone, we need His divine intervention to attain to that) then we have fulfilled the first part of verse 4 and are ready to reap the blessings of the second part.
This is where praying in the spirit comes in. When our hearts are one with His, and we are praising and praying, in the spirit, then it is BOTH OUR DESIRE AND HIS WILL that we are speaking, because they are now one in the same, and He is speaking through us!!!!!!!
Then, and only then, can we be TOTALLY SURE that what we pray will come to pass. When that time comes, we will know it.
We feel that “blessed assurance” deep in our spirits, that we could never develop in our minds, no matter how many faith building scriptures we read.
It is that oneness with His heart that brings about His blessings, and that not of our own desires only , but His desire for us.
Because at that time, we are speaking what we desire because He has put that desire into our hearts, because we have purposed to desire only His will for us and our families. Do you see how it is all blended together….Us for Him, He for us, us in Him, and He in us……..Just as He prayed the Father for us in John chapter 17.
And it all comes from devoting our lives to two things:
1. MAKING GOD EVERYTHING IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS
2. SEEKING ONLY HIS WILL FOR OUR LIVES AND OUR LOVED ONES.
