GOD’S WORD FOR MARCH 11 ~ ~ Psalm 96:9~ ~ “O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.”

Over hundreds of years, science has learned a lot about manipulating light. And while lasers and liquid crystals might seem pretty sophisticated, some of God’s creatures show us how much more there is to learn.

The Morpho butterfly is one of the brightest butterflies in nature but looked at closely in artificial light it appears dull gray-brown. However, in the sunlight its color changes to a bright blue. It can do this because the scales on its wings form a type of diffraction grating called a photonic band gap. This diffraction grating is formed by a precise spacing of the scales so that they are similar to the wavelength of sunlight. When white light hits the grating, it breaks down into its various colors. The red light waves cancel each other out, and all the other colors are scattered, except the blue. As a result, the blue color never fades, and it is so intense that it can be seen up to half a mile away. Scientists comment that we do not yet know how to make an optical structure this complex.

The Morpho butterfly, with all its amazing traits, is a testimony to the great wisdom and love of beauty of our Creator.

But, He considers Holiness the greatest of beauties – a beauty given us through the suffering and death of His Son, Jesus Christ. He told us to be Holy as He is Holy

Leviticus 19:2, ….‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.” As He looked ahead to the time when Christ would be the True Lamb of God, replacing the temporary animal sacrifices.

He was looking ahead to when those who are called by the Father, will become holy by the process of salvation and sanctification through Jesus Christ.

Jesus said: John 6:44

“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

He went on to explain that it’s not what we do, …it is entirely the work of God.

 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”

John 6:63-65

So even the beauty of the holiness in sanctification that He gives to believers, is of Him. It is His beauty, never anything we did, or could ever do.

Everything comes back to Him. He loved us before we were even conceived, so it can’t ever be of us.

Even our love for Him is a reflection of His love, because He IS love.

1 John 4:8

He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1 John 4:19

“We love Him because He first loved us.”

There is that love reflection. He does it but He won’t force it on anyone. We must ask Him to be in our lives, and turn from sin, then He will help us to live for Him, and obey Him out of gratitude for His sacrifice.

“Thank You Lord, for Your great love for us, and for giving us things too great for us to know. You are Love, and Light. You are indescribable. Thank You for Your protection, guidance, care, comfort, and Your continual presence in our lives, and for giving us holiness that we could never acquire ourselves.”
