This month we will read choices from two of Charles Spurgeon’s (known affectionately as the “prince of preachers”)  devotional, “Beside Still Waters.”  It’s no secret that this world system is getting more evil by the day.  We have to stand strong in the Lord and look to Him more than ever to get through, and to be guided through, what is in the future……..known and allowed  by Him alone…..as well as whatever personal things we are experiencing in our lives.

Like a shepherd, God supplies our needs (Psalm 23:1).  Some of you know for certain that God is your provider.  Your trials have been so difficult that if it had not been for heaven’s action you would never have been delivered.  You have sunk so deep in poverty that family and friends have stayed away.  You knew there was only one arm that could have lifted you.

Perhaps you have been reduced to such conditions that all you could do was pray.  You wrestled at the Throne and sought an answer, but it did not come.  You used every effort to extricate yourself, but darkness covered your way again and again;  you tried until hope vanished.  Adding vows to your prayers, you said in agony, “Oh God, if You will deliver me this time, I will never again doubt You.”

Look back on the path of your pilgrimage.  You may be able to count as many blessings as there are mile markers, blessings piled up with oil poured on them – places where you said, “the Lord has helped me.”

Look through your diary to see time after time when perils and demands were so great that no earthly source could help and you felt compelled to witness that there is a God – a God who guides your path and is acquainted with all your ways.

Psalm 32:8 ~ ~ “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;  I will guide you with My eye.”

You have received deliverance in many marvelous ways from so unseen a hand, from so unlikely source, and under circumstances foreign to your wishes.  Yet the deliverances were so perfect, so complete, and so wonderful that you have been obliged to say, “The Lord is my Shepherd.”  (Ps 23:1).  You now see this title stamped on all your mercies.

The Shepherd leads the sheep where He pleases, and you can be certain that He will lead them according to His will.

Remember your past blessings and praise Him for them!!!!
