GOD’S WORD FOR FEBRUARY 1

GOD’S WORD FOR FEBRUARY 1

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.

FAITH IN THE FIRE

Daniel 3:25

He answered and said, “But I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.”

D.L. MOODY

The fourth man was, doubtless, the Son of God.  That Great Shepherd of the sheep saw three of his true servants in peril, and He came from His Father’s presence and His father’s bosom to be with them in it.  He had been watching that terrible attempt to burn the faithful.  His tender pitying eye saw they were condemned to death because of their loyalty to Him.  With one great leap, He sprang from the Father’s presence, from His palace in glory, right down into the fiery furnace, and was by their side before the heat of the fire could come near to them.  Jesus was with His servants as the flames wreathed around them, and not a hair of their heads was singed.  They were not scorched; not even the smell of the fire was upon them.  I can almost fancy I hear them chanting:

(Isaiah 43:2) “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.

When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,

Nor shall the flame scorch you.”

ERWIN LUTZER

These three men were delivered from the fire, but many martyrs have died in the flames for their faith in Jesus Christ.  To us, the “Fourth Man” didn’t seem to deliver them.  We can accept unanswered prayer because we believe God’s will is best and that He is with us even if we’re not delivered from fiery trials.  Whether we see a miracle or not, let us resolve to trust in God and not swerve in our faith.

What God does IN US is sometimes more important than what God does FOR US.

PRAYER

Father, when I’m angry, disappointed, or bitter because You haven’t answered prayer as I expected, please speak to me through Your Word by Your Spirit.  I believe.  Help my unbelief.
