GOD’S WORD FOR APRIL 14
GOD’S WORD FOR APRIL 14
We are reading from a daily devotional called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer and the late, great D.L. Moody. Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his. Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there. He is Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.
CLEAN HEARTS, CLEAN FEET
Psalm 32:5
“I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.’ And you forgave the iniquity of my sin.”
D.L. MOODY
We are good at confessing other people’s sins, but if it is true repentance, we shall have as much as we can do to look after our own. When a man or woman gets a good look into God’s looking glass, they aren’t finding fault with other people: such are fully occupied with their own sins.
ERWIN LUTZER
Take a deep look into your heart. What do you really see? No doubt you see some good, but you’ll also see, if you’re honest, a lot of ugly things. As sinners, when we learn more about God’s holiness, we become more overwhelmed with even the “small” sins in our life. When Adam and Eve sinned, the smudge of sin settled on every human heart. That sense of guilt we’ve all experienced is the conviction that we are alienated from God.
He who washed the disciples’ feet is the One who can also wash our hearts. Who needs to be cleansed? The answer, of course, is everyone. In John 13:10, when Jesus washed the disciples feet, He said, “The one who has bathed doesn’t need to wash, except for his feet.” He was talking about two different kinds of baths. There is the bath of regeneration when you become a Christian. That is the bath that all of us need in order to get into heaven. The other bath, the “washing of feet,” is confession. When you sin, that sin has to be confessed so that you can stay reconciled to your Heavenly Father.
PRAYER
Father, please overcome my love of sin by granting me a greater love for You.

Ephesians 4:17-19
This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.
