GOD’S WORD FOR MAY 12

GOD’S WORD FOR  MAY 12

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.  Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there.  He is Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.

AN ETERNAL PROMISE

2 Peter 1:4

“…Precious and very great promises.”

D.L. MOODY

Let men feed for a month on the promises of God and they will not be talking of their “leanness”  It is not leanness, it is laziness.  There is an abundant supply for us if we will only rouse ourselves to take it.

ERWIN LUTZER

Everything that God promises, He has the ability and the resources to accomplish.  Ahaziah, like the rest of us, often wondered whether God’s promise would be fulfilled.  When King Ahaziah  fell ill, he sought the false god, Baal, for answers (2 Kings 1).  Elijah confronted him three times, asking, “Is there no God in Israel to care for you?”  Now, we’re always going to turn for help to others.  The real question is whether we turn to God and His promises first.

Moody was right to identify our major problem as believing in the promise of God.  When my friend Mark was dying of cancer, I visited him and asked how he could remain at peace knowing his earthly life would soon be over.  He opened a drawer beside his bed and showed me a large sheet of paper.  On it were more than a hundred promises.  “Whenever I am filled with fear and doubt, I take this sheet and reread the promises of God,” he told me.

Yes, we have exceedingly great and precious promises.  Let us cleave to them,  accepting the heartaches of life knowing our home is on the other side.

PRAYER

Father, please help me to know the promises of Your Word and believe them.  Please remind me that peace comes through believing what You promised.

Has his steadfast love forever ceased?

Are his promises at an end for all time?

Has God forgotten to be gracious?

Has he in anger shut up his compassion?”

Then I said, “I will appeal to this,

to the years of the right hand of the Most High.”

I will remember the deeds of the Lord;

yes, I will remember your wonders of old.

I will ponder all your work,

and meditate on your mighty deeds.

Your way, O God, is holy.

What god is great like our God?
