GOD’S WORD FOR MAY 15

GOD’S WORD FOR  MAY 15

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.  Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there.  He is Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.

WAR ZONE

2 Chronicles 31:21

“and every work that he undertook….he did with all his heart.”

D.L. MOODY

In all ages, God has used those people who were in earnest.  Satan always calls idle men into his service.  God calls active and earnest – not indolent men. You remember where Elijah found Eisha ploughing in the field?  Gideon was at the threshing floor.  Moses was away in Horeb looking after the sheep.  None of these were indolent men; what they did , they did with all their might.  We want such men and women nowadays.  If we cannot do God’s work with all the knowledge we would like to have, let us, at any rate, do it with all the zeal God has given us.

ERWIN LUTZER

Moody himself was a man of zeal;  a  man who seldom was found doing nothing.   He understood that the Christian life was a battle and we must be vigilant.  We do not wrestle against flesh and blood but against…the spiritual forces of evil”  (Ephesians 6:12).   To win in a fight, we need to make a series of wise and difficult decisions.  Small victories lead to big victories.  But small defeats can eventually lead to huge defeats.  Sins we do not conquer will eventually conquer or compromise us.

How do we go about winning battles?  We need to stop wasting hours on our computers and smart phones and know that our enemy is not indolent.  Satan strategically attacks our weaknesses to bring us down.  If you are not in a battle, Satan either doesn’t consider you a threat to his kingdom or you can expect an attack tomorrow.

Our spiritual battles are a beautiful blend between human agency and divine intervention.  We must pray and we must act.  Those who are spiritually lazy don’t win battles, they are overrun by evil forces determined to win.

PRAYER

Father, help us actively stand against the forces of evil by prayer, meditation, and connecting with like-minded warriors.
