GOD’S WORD FOR JUNE 7
GOD’S WORD FOR JUNE 7
We are reading from a daily devotional called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer and the late, great D.L. Moody. Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his. Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there. He is Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.

DESPERATE, DELIGHTFUL PRAYER
John 16:24
“Until now yuh ae asked nothing in y name. Ask, and you will receive.”
D.L. MOODY
It is related of a king that he gave one of his generals, who has pleased him, permission to draw any sum from his treasury. When the draft came in, the treasurer was incredulous, and yet fearfully paid the amount. Later, the treasurer conferred with the king, who confirmed the amount and replied, “don’t you know that the general has honored me and my kingdom by making a large draft?” So we honor God by making a large draft on Him.
ERWIN LUTZER
D.L. Moody loved to quote verses having to do with prayer. He himself prayed with regularity and consistency. He knew that, for many people, only desperation drives us to prayer. God doesn’t always answer our prayers immediately; persistence is important. “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find: knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7). We are to keep on knocking. What God is saying is, “I want to stretch your faith. I want to develop your faith. I want to give you lots of needs so that you end up coming to Me, realizing you need me more than you need answers to your needs.”
You and I know God sometimes says no to our prayers. At times like that, let us say with Job, “Though He slay me, I will hope in Him.” (Job 13:15).
I’ll trust Him when I get answers to prayer; I’ll also trust Him when I don’t get answers to prayer, and when we don’t see the answers, let us not become bitter, but rather find delight in God.
Don’t ever interpret the silence of God as the indifference of God.
PRAYER
Father, please help me to lift my requests to you in faith and be satisfied with Your response. What You give and what You withhold is Your decision.

1John 5:14 – 151Thessalonians 5:17 – 18
Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Psalm 116:1 – 4,
I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the Lord: “Please, Lord, save me!”

James 5:13 – 14
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

John 14:13 – 15
I [Jesus] will do anything you ask the Father in my name so that the Father will be given glory because of the Son. If you ask me to do something, I will do it. If you love me, you will obey my commandments.

And this is the confidence that we have toward Him: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we may ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of Him.

Habakkuk 3:17-19
Even if the fig tree does not blossom,
And there is no fruit on the vines,
If the yield of the olive fails,
And the fields produce no food,
Even if the flock disappears from the fold,
And there are no cattle in the stalls,
Yet I will triumph in the Lord,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
The Lord God is my strength,
And He has made my feet like deer’s feet,
And has me walk on my high places.

John 5:16 (ASV)
“Confess therefore your sins one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The supplication of a righteous man avails much in its working.”
