GOD’S WORD FOR JULY 18

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.  Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there.  He is  Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.

HEAVEN, THE CHOIR ROOM OF GOD

Colossians 1:3-5

“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…because of the hope laid up for you in heaven.”

A great many persons imagine that anything said about heaven is only a matter of speculation.  They talk about heaven much as they would about the air.  Now there would not have been so much in Scripture on this subject if God had wanted to leave the human race in darkness about it.  “All scripture,” we are told, “is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”  (2 Timothy 3:16-17).  What the Bible says about heaven is just as true as what is says about everything else.  The Bible is inspired.  What we are taught about heaven could not have come to us in any other way than by inspiration.  No one knew anything about it but God, and so if we want to find out anything about it we have to turn to His Word.

There is much we could say about heaven, but I will focus on one aspect:  In heaven, the worship of God will be ongoing.  We can prepare for heaven while on Earth by worshiping the Lord.  1Chronicles 16:29 says:  “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name.  Just read the book of Revelation and you will find praise and worship directed to God sung by angels and yes, sung by us.  So, prepare for heaven now by worshiping God today.  If you are looking for help, just read Revelation 5:9-14.

Let me repeat:  the best preparation for heaven is to worship God well on earth.
