GOD’S WORD FOR JULY 31
GOD’S WORD FOR JULY 31
We are reading from a daily devotional called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer and the late, great D.L. Moody. Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his. Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there. He is Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.

HIDDEN SIN LIVES AGAIN
Proverbs 28:13
“Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.”
D.L. MOODY
“He that covers his sins shall not prosper.” He may be a man in the pulpit, a priest before the altar, a king on the throne; I don’t care who he is. Man has been trying it for six thousand years. Adam tried it and failed. Moses tried it when he buried the Egyptian whom he killed, but he failed. “Be sure your sin will find you out.” (Numbers 32:23). You cannot bury your sin so deep but it will have a resurrection eventually, if it has not been blotted out by the Son of God. What man has failed to do for six thousand years, we had better give up trying to do.
ERWIN LUTZER
The story of David committing adultery with Bathsheba is well-known. She became pregnant, and then he had her husband, Uriah, killed. For a while, David thought his sin was covered, he had done what he needed to do to get out of the mess and salvage his reputation. But the cover-up didn’t work very well. It never does.
Whether we were brought up in a strict or lenient home, we all have a conscience, and there’s nothing we can do about the stain of sin upon our conscience. Time will never obliterate our sin. We need God to do that for us.
We can’t hide our sin from God, nor from ourselves, and usually not from others.
PRAYER
Father, search my heart. Convict me of my hidden sins so I can confess and repent of those sins.
