GOD’S WORD FOR AUGUST 17

GOD’S WORD FOR AUGUST 17

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.  Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there.  He is  Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.

MORE PRECIOUS THAN BIRDS

Luke 11:3

Give us each day our daily bread.

D.L.MOODY

If God could set a table for His people in the wilderness, and feed three million Israelites for forty years, can He not give us our daily bread?  I do not mean only the bread that perishes, but also the Bread the comes from above.  If He feeds the birds of the air, surely He will feed His children made in His own image!  If He numbers the very hairs of our head,  He will take care to supply all our temporal needs.

ERWIN LUTZER

Jesus gave us three reasons why we should not worry.  First, He says we shouldn’t worry because of who we are. “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?”  If He takes care of the birds, will He not take care of us?  Don’t miss Jesus’ point.  When we worry, we diminish our value!

Second, we shouldn’t worry because it’s useless; it cannot add to our stature.  Worry is like putting on the brakes ad stepping on the gas simultaneously.  It would be worth it if it added to the length of our life, but in fact, it might diminish it.

Third, we shouldn’t worry because of our testimony.  When we worry, we act like the pagans who don’t know the Heavenly Father.  Two people get cancer, one is a Christian, the other is not.  How tragic if the Christian accepts it no better than the pagan!

Yes, we need to look daily to the Lord to receive what He has promised.

PRAYER

Father, I know You love me and desire what is best for me.  Please help me to not carry tomorrow’s burdens today; tomorrow will take care of itself  Thank You for caring for me.
