GOD’S WORD FOR AUGUST 25

GOD’S WORD FOR AUGUST 25

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.  Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there.  He is  Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.

DISCIPLES MAKE DISCIPLES

Acts 13:43

“And after the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who, as they spoke with them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.”

D.L. MOODY:

How much would Paul and Barnabas have accomplished if they had pronounced the benediction and sent these people home?  It is a thing to weep over that we have got thousands and thousands of church members who are good for nothing toward extending the kingdom of God.  They understand markets, fairs, sewing-circles; but when you ask them to sit down and show a man or woman the way into God’s kingdom, they say;  “Oh,  I’m not able to do that.  Let the deacons do it, or someone else.”

It’s all wrong.  The church ought to be educated on this very point.  There are a great many church members who are just hobbling around on crutches.  They can just make out that they are saved, and imagine that is all that constitutes a Christian.  As far as helping others is concerned, that never enters their heads.  They think if they can get along themselves, they are doing amazingly well.  They have no idea what the Holy Ghost wants to do through them.

ERWIN LUTZER

In days gone by, Christians would bring their unbelieving friends to church hoping they would hear the gospel and be saved.  But a large segment of today’s population is skeptical about the church and would never attend.  We  must realize that we have the personal responsibility of building bridges and witnessing to their need for faith in Christ.  Moody would say to us, “Today, begin to seek the lost”

PRAYER

Father, please bring to mind unbelievers, neighbors,  friends, and relatives.  May I seek seriously Your command to help the lost find their way.

Romans 1:15-16

So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.  For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Galatians 3:28

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Romans 10:11-12

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.”  For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him;

Isaiah 63:11

Then His people remembered the days of old, of Moses. Where is He who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit in the midst of them,
