GOD’S WORD FOR SEPTEMBER 16

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.  Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there.  He is  Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.

GOD LOOKS AT ME AND SEES JESUS

“When He calls to me, I will answer Him.” Psalm 91:15

Listen to the prodigal, “Father, I have sinned” (Luke 15:21). That was enough; the father took him right to his bosom. The past was blotted out at once.

Look at the men on the day of Pentecost. Their hands were dripping with the blood of the Son of God; they had murdered Jesus Christ. And what did Peter say to them? “It shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:21).

Look at the penitent thief. Perhaps, as a boy, his mother taught him that passage in Joel, “It shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered” (Joel 2:32). As he hung there on the cross, it flashed into his mind that this was the Lord of glory, and though he was on the very borders of hell, he cried out, “Lord, remember me,” and the answer came right then and there, “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:42–43). In the morning, as black as hell could make him; in the evening, not a spot or wrinkle. Why? Because he took God at His word. Why will men doubt Him?

There is one prayer in which you’ll receive an instant answer, without waiting: Moody quoted it, “Whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

Twenty-four hours a day, God demands perfection from me if I’m going to be His child and fellowship with Him. Twenty-four hours a day, Jesus Christ supplies what God demands. Are we perfect in experience? No. There are days when I don’t feel very spiritual. We face illnesses, migraines, depression, and temptations. God knows when we fall into sin. Yet because of Christ’s substitution, God has declared us to be as perfect as Christ and is making us complete in Him.

    Father, thank you for your invitation to trust Christ. May many take advantage of that gift today.

John 17:9-11;16-17;20-24

(Jesus praying to the Father about us) ~  “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.  And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them.  Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are one……… They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.  Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is Truth………I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;  that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.  And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:  I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.   Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”
