GOD’S WORD FOR SEPTEMBER 19

We are reading from a daily devotional  called “Running To Win” written by Erwin Lutzer  and the late, great D.L. Moody.   Erwin Lutzer is a light in our day as D.L. Moody was in his.  Besides his many ministries, and many books, Pastor Lutzer was Senior Pastor at Moody Church in Chicago for 36 years and now serves as Pastor Emeritus there.  He is  Chancelor and a former professor at Moody Bible Institute, where he taught Theology and Ministry, and now has numerous radio teachings.

PROMISED THROUGHOUT TIME

These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. Hebrews 11:13

D.L. MOODY

We ought in these days to have far more faith than Abel or Enoch or Abraham had. They lived before the cross. We talk about the faith of Elijah and the patriarchs and prophets, but they lived in the dim light of the past, while we are in the full blaze of Calvary and the resurrection. When we look back and think of what Christ did, how He poured out His blood that men might be saved, we ought to go forth in His strength and conquer the world. Our God is able to do great and mighty things.

ERWIN LUTZER

Adam and Eve were given the first glimpse of the gospel in Genesis 3. Eve’s eventual descendant, the Lord Jesus Christ, would crush the head of the serpent, and the serpent would strike back but with a minor wound. But for the time being, when Adam and Eve found themselves feeling the sting of shame, God gave them animal skins to cover their nakedness. Right from the beginning, God wanted them to know that there was no cheap covering for sin.

From the standpoint of eternity, all of Satan’s victories are illusionary; he is out on bond doing all the damage he can, but his sentence has already been pronounced. As Moody pointed out, we see this much more clearly today than did the saints in the Old Testament. They looked forward to the coming of a redeemer, but the picture was unclear. Today, “with unveiled face, we behold the glory of the Lord” (see 2 Corinthians 3:18).

The resurrection of Jesus is proof that His work on the cross was completed. If you have doubts, bring your doubts to God—He will welcome and sustain you.

    PRAYER

    Father, thank you for all the promises you fulfilled at the cross. Today, I walk in Christ’s victory.
