WALK CIRCUMSPECTLY
WALK CIRCUMSPECTLY
Ephesians 5:15, KJV
15 “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.”
These are terribly important words for the times we live in. I believe our entire walk with the Lord can be summed up in these three verses, if we are already saved.
Paul says we should live our lives (walk) “circumspectly”. This word means to look around you, and analyze every move, every thought, as to the consequences of doing the wrong thing. This is in the physical, material, emotional, relational, and spiritual aspects of our lives. How will the wrong decision, word spoken or written, or action, affect both myself and my family, those around me, and, most importantly, my relationship with My God, and His perfect will for us.
“Redeeming the time…”…Redeeming means to rescue from loss, and the word for ‘time’ means occasion, or opportunity. So God is saying that by making the right decisions, by analyzing our actions and decisions, we may be able to rescue from loss many opportunities of our lives, affecting both ourselves and those we love, even for generations down the line. What we do today, the attitude we have today, has a great influence on our descendents until the end of time. THAT is a GREAT responsibility we all have.
So, we are commanded to live our lives wisely, thinking about how it will turn out, not as fools, who do what they want for their own pleasure, with no thought to the consequences for themselves or their families, so that we can take opportunities to rescue situations that could otherwise go wrong for many many years.
Why? There is a great reason for this:
“Because the days are evil.” There are several words for evil in the Greek language. Some mean a passive evil, as the weakness of human nature, or mild deception, a bad character that degenerates over time.
But this word means a hurtful, murderous and aggressive evil that has reached its full potential to do irreparable harm. It is the end times, when satan knows his time is short and is flinging open all the doors of hell!
This is NOT a thing to be taken lightly, fellow Christians!!! We need to be constantly in prayer, in the understanding, and in our spirits, constantly internally on our faces before Our Lord in repentance and seeking His guidance and, most importantly, submitting to His Perfect Will for us and ours.
This is what verse 17 says. If we are to be wise, we will be so submitted to Our Lord that we will know that He is guiding us in every move we make, as our eyes are upon Him, and desiring His Will and His Will only! We don’t have to pray about every individual move we make. If we are rightly related to Him, we will know that He is guiding us, unless we feel the “check” of the Holy Spirit, then we must immediately obey that.
The Church is the Body of Christ, we need to be guided by the Head, (Jesus Christ) as our bodies are guided by our heads and brains. Our bodies can’t go on their own without our brain commanding it, and neither can the Church do anything good without being guided by the Head, Jesus Christ.
